Author Visits

What a treat it is to enjoy occasional visits from published authors! Our most recent visit was from Kathy Miller, author of the Chippy Chipmunk books. She showed students how to take good wildlife photographs and use them to create stories.

In previous years, we have hosted Mara Rockliff, who taught students how to research for a nonfiction story; illustrator John Manders; Debbie Dadey, author of Mermaid Tales; and author-illustrator Lee Harper.

Book Talk

We love books! We encourage every student to talk about their favorites in meaningful ways.

IU9 Reading Competition
Every year, readers from our school attend the IU9 Reading Competition at Bradford schools. There, we meet with other schools to talk about books and test our knowledge of the books we’ve read. If you are interested in joining our book teams, Please see Mrs. Batterson.

PA Young Reader’s Choice Awards
Since 2013, our students have voted in the selection of PA Young Reader's Choice Award books. This award honors recent children’s books nominated and chosen by Pennsylvania kids. In order to participate, students must read at least three of the nominated books by March of the current school year. We have all books available on display in the library.

March Book Madness
Our older students participate in March Book Madness. This program helps students discover new books and authors while encouraging them to discuss important story elements and themes.
